Fantastic. I don't currently own 1.6 on steam, however I consider getting it but first I want to know, how many local active players are there still, and on which servers do they play?

I played 1.6 the other day. It's still old. The only thing I like about 1.6 over source is that 1.6 aiming is a lot easier and the players are a little more mature! Thats about it. Same thing is going to happen as always. 1.6 players are going to go mad about it for 2-3 months and then its going to die again. I say bring out 1.05 pro mod for source and start servers with that. 1.6 is dead. Stop reviving dead games. If overseas people are playing 1.6 then let them play it. They will get really good at a dead game while we advance at the almost latest games.
Just my opinion though so don't take it to heart. I tried to play 1.6 the other day and was actually disappointed in it. As much as I do love it I believe its better to stop complaining about source and rather just try better yourself at it.
The download is 800MB. No servers except a pickup server through MIRC.
Just to let you know. Here is an international premier e-sports coverage of current comps and future comps.
The last big comp that was held that catered for 1.6 had 64 teams in Source and 64 teams in 1.6. The others didn't have 1.6 and most of it was source.
So the fact that one article was published and now everyone goes to 1.6 is actually a joke!
1.05 pro mod will hopefully be the solution, but people complain no matter how great a game/system/server is.
Too be honest source is awesome and so is 1.6. Going back to an old system is not going to make you a better player though as this is the image some of these source players portray! If your aim sux it sux. The gameplay isn't that much better as most of these source->1.6 players judge the game by the players and not the game.
As I said though just my personal opinion! Now lets have a braai! All invited to my place. We playing Wolfenstein, Quake(No not 3. How lame is quake 3), Doom and oh oh...Counter strike 1.6
