MUTE for admins via mani plugin?

Lo peeps,

I would just like to know if it is possible to add the option (for trial admin) to be able to MUTE people ingame as on NUMEROUS occasions I have (as well as other admin who have voiced it to me) come across people who get abusive both via mic and/or text chat. There are also cases where people deliberatelly spam radio commands or again spam via mic. Often debates break out between two or more players over silly things like camping or 'bs shots' etc and people sometimes take it a bit too far and even after politely asking or even warning them, insist on carrying on being rude and making unnecessary comments back and forth. Can we not at least be allowed to MUTE someone, even if it is just for a few rounds in order to get the point across?

Another issue I have which indirectly is linked back to the MUTE topic is the lack of respect for admin on the servers by some people regarding rules. I have warned several (of the same) members of public regarding things like 'flash boosting' at long A, bad language or asking people to please change their rates (only when set to things like 2000 10 40 etc) just to have them argue back n forth about how or why they feel they are not cheating, that what they said is not swearing cause they replaced the U with a * in c*nt (sorry - only way to explain it) or how they dont have to change their rates etc...all these things lead to unnecessary arguements that could quite easily be cut off after the first rude reply by just muting the person for a round or two until they cool off...

Regarding the mute it would be a nice feature to be able to control the servers to make it pleasent for every1 but regarding the respect of admin... I believe the respect doesnt come from the title but rather earned... we must remember we not here to ban people but only if it affects every1 else do I ban... I believe through this way i earn the respect of the community... not just because im admin.. just my view

Hi Ret, Skull. I have scanned the plugin forums and help file for the plugin used on the IS servers but found no referance to PLAYER MUTE (it used to be called GAG). Whilst I agree that respect is earned, ROE rules are there to be obeyed to make it fun for all. However they (offenders) seldom read the admin private message as they are too engrossed in their game. Or deny seeing it. I find that a temp ban of 5 minutes or 1 hour go a long way in earning respect :) and inmho this is the only way right now to make rude and unbearable gamers (and ROE violaters) cool off and go read the ROE. Perhaps their arrogance is not deemed an ROE violation but Admin disrespect is. My motto? Screenshot the abuse/dissent and cover your backside.

Hey Skull - i completely understand your point regarding 'earning respect' and for the most part i think i have/do with most players...however there are a few 'bad apples' and ppl that think they are above the law, so to speak. I wont name names, but if i did i think a few public members as well as other admin would agree to certain disruptive players being a bit of a pain.

As for what you were saying Magnum - its not even necessary to worry about additional plugins - it is already part of Mani Admin which is what we have (albeit limited control over) Enabling it is as simple as inserting a single letter to actually allow us to USE it by changing how our admin is set up in the clients.txt file. Mani is much more powerful than most people know or are shown on public servers...Each admin can have completely different access to mani admin and its commands by editing the clients file... what most senior admin do is limit junior admin/less experienced admin from certain commands in order to prevent problems with ppl messing about too much with settings they dont know about etc. You will probably find that we( trial admin) have been assigned to a group within the mani admin plugin which gives us the limited commands we see ingame. All im saying is that maybe Senior admin will consider enabling mute as one of OUR available options.

hey guys again

Regarding the 5 min ban I have done this in the past and there is something wrong with this as the individual ends up recieving a 1 day ban (ask krimzon and kradenko) as krad had 2 be asked to remove the ban as the 1 day ban was not the intention of my ban...Just a heads up there.

There are always gonna be "bad apples" and dealing with them can be extremely hard. you dont wanna seem as an admin going on a power trip and yet you dont want the server to be left the way it is. like magnum said always screenshot as backup when Im challenged for a ban as I just say take up on the forums ...

I will speak to the other fellow trial admins and encourage them to read this.

Yeah 5 minute bans dont work. Mute has been disabled for all admins it seemes.

ye, i make a point of starting a recording of a demo if i see that there is a chance for someone to get a bit worked up...even if i know i should warn someone for swearing etc - i start arecording before hand and then have my say...just incase it comes back here

Ret, I was referring to MANI on the IS servers but deliberately didnt mention it's actiual name. I have setup many a server with this plugin and understand the levels of admin and admin access that can be configured, however I simply cannot find referance to a GAG/MUTE option atm, nor is there mention of it in the MANI Forums or Setup Guides. I need new glasses! I am on the same page re trial admins having limited access. Here's another suggestion for now if acceptable to Core Admins: Use vote_kick <playername> or if we have the access (I will try tonight) try ma_votequestion <Vote title> [optional Answer 1] [optional Answer 2] [optional Answer 3] ...

However read your welcome pack when you became a trial as to which cmd's we are and arent allowed to use. (Irrelevant of course if it's not been added to our current level of access.)

As far as 5 min bans are concerned, I did send Gertjie a notification of this error with the plugin a few days ago, that it bans for 1 day and not 5 minutes when using "!banmenu" and not the Online Based ban interface.

Krad,I see you guys are having trouble with your admin prog.Why not take the time to add groups on mani with level 4 or 3 or 2 for the admin level and in there you can mute people.If you need help,please get hold off me on Steam.

Right, neither votekick or ma_votequestion are enabled for trials, as expected. That leaves us to warn, warn, warn and then ban if the violation is in line with the ROE.

As said before it is not only the trial admins who have lost these options. Recordings/screenshots are the way to go. I have contacted Kradenko about the admin commands. As for any other problems the trial admins are experiencing please rather email/pm Icidis or Phoenix. If they cannot help then contact Nemi, Gertjie or Kradenko.

Hey Guys,

Yes, at the moment only the senior admins have the ability to mute. I think at least the full admins (and in terms of making your jobs easier) the trial admins should also get this ability. I have spoken to Kradenko and he has enabled it for u guys. Might need a server restart for it to kick in though so be patient. Having said that it should never be used for your own vendettas. A general rule I use is even if a players' spam is irritating me, I won't mute. Only if another player comments on it will I do something. The reason being that I may be in a bad mood or find what he/she says annoying, but no-one else minds. As soon as it starts impacting another player's game, sort it out.

Thx Core, atm only on Sniperless is mute active, the rest will activate after a server restart. this function was sorely missed on other hosts game servers where CSS turned into SKYPE! For those trials that cant remember, type "admin" in console and not "ma_admin"

Also u can use 'bind i admin' (or bind any letter really) to access mani too by just pressing that button ingame :)
