Hey all
First off, I am aware that Rares server does have custom maps on its rotation but from what I have seen, these maps have been alternate gameplay/fun small-player-amount maps. A server I am proposing would have only custom maps that have been rated well for working with vanilla 24 player tf2. In this case vanilla meaning all default classes, gametypes (cp ctf pl etc) and server settings.
There have been a few custom map servers with a similar idea to the above in SA in the past but most of them died quite violent deaths because of various reasons.
The main reasons being:
- Simply bad or boring maps on the server.
- Lack of updating the map rotation over time to get the bad maps removed and better ones added.
- No location to download all the maps on the server (especially when the server first becomes public).
- Issues with downloading the larger maps through TF2.
So basically if we do get a custom maps server going on IS we need to make sure that all of the above issues are addressed in order to increase the chance that the server is used and supported.
After looking through quite a load of maps I found some that could work on the server:
cp_freight - 5cp push map know by most, has loads of trains and balanced gameplay. (not cp_freight_final as in the link)
cp_furnace_b4 - 3cp stopwatch attack/defend map similar to gravelpit, seems like it would be fun.
cp_gullywash - 5cp push map loosely based on badlands but with many more roots and a better last cp.
cp_indulge - 5cp push map nice visuals and seemingly balanced gameplay.
cp_resonance - 5cp push map known by some, I'm not too sure about this one though...
cp_wildmire_b2a - Swamp styled 5cp push map with excellent visuals.
pl_cashworks_rc2 - Epic scale payload map that should be intense with a full 12vs12.
